2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

For 2021, Chevrolet has introduced many new and improved features in the Silverado 1500. This already capable full-sized truck is now more comfortable and convenient, and it’s safer than ever before. The Silverado 1500’s towing capacity continues to increase along with its overall power and performance. There’s no doubt that the 2021 Silverado 1500 will meet or exceed your expectations.

Choose Your Powertrain

With multiple engines available for the 2021 Silverado 1500, there’s sure to be one to suit your needs. A 4.3-liter V-6 is the base engine that gets 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and can tow up to 7,900 pounds. One step up, you’ll find a 2.7-liter turbo-four that produces 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque and gets an eight-speed automatic transmission. This combination enables the Silverado 1500 to tow up to 9,500 pounds.

If you want a diesel without purchasing a heavy-duty truck, the 2021 Silverado 1500 has you covered. An available 3.0-liter turbodiesel-six provides 277 horsepower and an impressive 460 pound-feet of torque. Its power and torque are transferred to the ground by a 10-speed automatic transmission. With this combination, you can tow 9,500 pounds. It’s the most efficient powertrain for the Silverado 1500. The estimated fuel mileage for the turbodiesel is 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway for two-wheel drive models. Four-wheel-drive models get 22 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

The 5.3-liter V-8, which generates 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, is the most common engine for the 2021 Silverado 1500. You can tow up to 10,000 pounds with this engine, which has the option of a six-speed, eight-speed, or 10-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel-drive models with the 5.3-liter only come with a 10-speed automatic transmission. This engine is equipped with either active fuel management technology or dynamic fuel management technology.

If power is what you need, the 6.2-liter V-8 that makes 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque can tow up to 11,900 pounds. It’s only available with a 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. When you get the four-wheel drive Silverado 1500 RST with double cab and standard bed, equipped with 20-inch wheels and the max trailering package, you can tow up to 13,300 pounds.

Advanced Towing Tech

Towing with the 2021 Silverado 1500 is easier than ever before, with an array of advanced towing technology to help you stay safe as you tow your boat, camper, or trailer. Eight available cameras can provide you with 15 different views, keeping you informed of your surroundings. The cameras provide four available views:

  • Hitch View: Helps you with alignment when hitching up with a close-up view of the receiver hitch.
  • Surround View: Gives you a bird’s-eye view of your truck’s surroundings.
  • Rear Top-Down View: This Lets you see the clearance between your truck bed and nearby objects.
  • Bed View: Used for checking on cargo and hitching-up a fifth-wheel or gooseneck. Bed Hitch Guidance and Cargo Bed Zoom are new features for the 2021 model year.

Six available driving views give you the ability to see what’s ahead and behind as you’re towing. These views help you stay informed of pedestrians, objects, and vehicles around your truck and trailer. Here’s a brief explanation of the six driving views:

  • Transparent Trailer: Compatible trailers enable you to see through the trailer with a virtual image.
  • Front Camera View: When making tight maneuvers and parking, this view shows you what’s directly in front of the truck.
  • Pic-In-Pic Side View: Combines the Rear Trailer View and the Rear Side View and requires the available Chevrolet Accessory Camera.
  • Rear Camera Mirror: This available rearview mirror gives you a less-obstructed and broader field of view. The mirror is dual-function and camera-based.
  • Rear Trailer View: With a compatible trailer, the Chevrolet Accessory Camera gives you a view of objects behind the trailer. Your path is also outlined with a Trailer Angle Indicator and Trailer Guidelines. Another set of guidelines uses steering inputs to show where the trailer will go.
  • Inside Trailer View: The available Chevrolet Accessory Camera can be installed inside your trailer, giving you a view of the cargo or contents.

Parking a truck and trailer can be intimidating, but with five available parking views, the Silverado 1500 will help alleviate some of the pressure. Here are the five available parking views:

  • Rear Camera View: Gives you a view behind the truck with guidelines that help you with parking.
  • Rear Side View: Uses a split-screen to show you a line of sight down both sides of the truck and trailer.
  • Rear Side View (Turn Signal Activated): When towing a compatible trailer, a full-screen view down either side of the truck and trailer is shown when the turn signal is activated.
  • Bowl View: This is a 3D surround view facing the rear, helping with low-speed backing maneuvers.
  • Front Side View: This view shows you the front tires’ position during tight maneuvers and parking.

Other impressive towing tech includes an available in-vehicle trailering app detailing customized trailer profiles, trailer lighting diagnostics, and pre-departure checklists. The in-vehicle app also monitors the temperature and air pressure of the trailer’s tires. The Tow/Haul Reminder detects when your truck is connected to a trailer and will remind you to engage the Tow/Haul mode.

When traveling in reverse with Hitch View active, the Silverado 1500’s electric parking brake automatically engages when you shift to park to mitigate vehicle roll. Trailer security is covered by the Trailer Theft Alert system, which sounds the horn and flashes the lights if your trailer is disconnected while your vehicle is parked. These are just a few of the available trailering technology features available for the 2021 Silverado 1500.
